Looking Ahead: Roadmap

I’m hard at work on  getting the Mac version up and running (thanks again to Jared Mann, without whose help all this cross-platform goodness wouldn’t have been possible) and once that’s out I’ll also be able to release all the polish and bug fixes I’ve been adding to the Windows version.

You’ll like this version, I’ve made so many change’s. I spent half-an-hour re-making the bubble sprite today! WHY YES MY PRIORITIES ARE IN ORDER THANK YOU FOR ASKING.

In the meantime, presented without comment: the Species ALRE Roadmap.

Obligatory Disclaimer: nothing on this road map is guaranteed or promised. While I have put plenty of thought into at least some of these features, implementation hasn’t actually begun on any of them. At this point, almost everything this map is purely conceptual.

Also, I reserve the right to go off on unplanned tangents at any time and implement things not on this chart if I think they’ll add to the game.

(Okay, presented with minimal comment)

Cheers,
Quasar

If only half of this stuff was implemented, I would still be happy. Everything on the road map looks amazing and I’m excited to see where the game goes.

    Dear Qu,

I find your work fascinating, though I didn’t get to try Species yet. However, I’ve read through a good portion of this blog, for all the problems and ideas that emerge are truly interesting.
I’ve been looking for an explanation on one thing, and I couldn’t find it. It is clear that thousands of creatures just cannot duke it out in true 3D, at least not taking claws at the end of feet at the end of mutated limbs into account. Maybe something as simple as Red Alert could be run on this massive scale. So I suppose there is some kind of simplified combat/feeding/movement model for creatures out of sight. Is that true, or am I totally wrong, and could you link me to the post dealing with this problem, ie. optimizing the 3d environment with respect to CPU? thank you and keep it up!

LINUX OMG! ^^ I’ve been trying (and failing) to make this work on linux and this is the reason of my refund, but if you do manage to get it working, it’ll be a rebuy!

If you need any linux testers, let us know! (Probably on https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/ would be your best shot)
